Further Gun Control is Not the Answer

If you have a habit of listening to talk radio on your morning drive to work or fond of watching late night news shows, chances are you’re pretty sick of hearing all about gun control. There’s this belief that gun control will make us a safer country, that decreasing the guns in people’s hands will somehow make all that tragedy disappear like cool vapor on a hot summer night. How wrong they are. Statistics show that enforcing gun control does not have an effect on when crime happens. Not only that, but it seems that more and more Americans see guns as the solution and not the problem, as discussed in this Washington Post article.

Amber Phillips writes, “It’s an echo of a familiar theme from NRA head Wayne LaPierre. “The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun,” LaPierre said frequently amid the more recent gun-control debate. And most Americans agree with this logic, according to a 2014 Pew Research Poll.”

So if the polls prove gun control supporters wrong then what gives? Why is everyone spoon-fed the impression less guns is the answer, that more guns equal more crime? Well, we may be looking at media bias or that a few people with incredible power are trying to get their beliefs into the mainstream. Regardless of the case, it seems that Americans are in support of guns and with that being the case, it means that we have greater need for gun education and firearms insurance, wouldn’t you all agree?
